Forestry Commission Wales (FCW) is required to maintain this register in accordance with Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations. The EIA register shows FCW decisions made during the process of carrying out an environmental impact assessment.
Under EIA regulations, FCW is responsible for ensuring that environmental impact assessments are carried out for all applications that propose to carry out work, or are within areas, in the following categories: afforestation, deforestation, forest roads and/or forest quarries.
If FCW consider that work proposals will have a significant effect on the environment then the person proposing to carry out the work cannot proceed without FCW EIA consent. In order to apply for consent the applicant must submit an Environmental Statement to FCW.

What information does the Register show?
The register shows details of individual cases at three possible stages:
- Opinion - This is the first stage when Forestry Commission Wales decides whether the applicant must apply for consent. Information about this stage will be displayed for four weeks.
If consent is required and the applicant applies, then details of two further stages will be shown:
- Scoping – A scoping meeting is held to help decide the issues that must be covered in the Environmental Statement. Information about this stage will remain on the Register for five weeks.
- Determination – The final decision stage when Forestry Commission Wales decides whether to give consent for the project after receiving the Environmental Statement. Information about this stage will be displayed for six weeks. During this period anyone may appeal to the Court if Forestry Commission Wales have granted consent for the project.
