Consulting others about grant and felling applications
The Forestry Commission consults local authorities, and other organisations with statutory powers, in relation to land use before deciding whether to approve applications for woodland planting and for tree felling. Details of applications are displayed on our Register of Grant Scheme and Felling Applications for 28 days.
Under the Better Woodlands for Wales (BWW) grant scheme, Management Planners are responsible for carrying out the consultation process. Forestry Commission Wales will only get involved if the planner fails to conclude consultation satisfactorily. The BWW Consultation Procedures page explains the process.
How you can make comments about new planting and felling applications
Find out about cases in your area by looking at our Register of Grant Scheme and Felling Applications. You can get further details of a case by contacting the Forestry Commission Conservancy office within whose boundary the local authority lies.
Consulting others about applications for consent under the Environmental Impact Assessment (Forestry) Regulations 1999
The Forestry Commission consults local authorities and other organisations, with statutory powers in relation to land use, before making a decision about applications for consent. Details of all of the decisions the Forestry Commission makes under these regulations are displayed on the Register of Environmental Impact Assessment.
Development affecting woodlands
Under the 2008 Planning Act the Forestry Commission has a statutory role as consultee to provide a view on major infrastructure projects likely to have a significant impact on trees and woodlands. Please click here to see the FCW policy position on development affecting woodlands.
Meeting the UK Forestry Standard
Applications only appear on the Register if they meet the requirements of the UK Forestry Standard. The Standard sets out the criteria and standards for the sustainable management of forests and woodlands in the UK. The UK Forestry Standard booklet costs £7.50, however it can also be downloaded from the FC website at: www.forestry.gov.uk/publications.
Notifying neighbours about proposals
It is strongly advised that applicants discuss their proposals with neighbours whose properties might be affected. In some cases we will make this a requirement. Applicants must then record details of any discussions that take place and include this with their application.
