Longwood Community Wood

A National Assembly owned ancient, semi natural woodland with a mixture of broadleaf and conifer plantations, it lies adjacent to a line of Bronze age hill forts and is used regularly by the public visiting these and the woods. The recently established group consists of people who live in and around the wood, and others who have an interest in the woodland. They would like to see the woodland become more accessible and user friendly to communities surrounding the woodland

The group proposes to set up a Forest School to enable local schools to make use of the woodland for educational purposes and also hopes to provide regular teaching sessions to encourage young people to understand more about the environment and develop woodland skills. Woodland management works will also be undertaken, a tree nursery established to reintroduce broadleaf trees, existing bridleways and footpaths upgraded, new access paths constructed, and information points and amenities provided for all visitors.
