Learning Woodland

The site occupies part of the Rockwool manufacturing plant at Pencoed, the majority of which has been used by heavy industry for the past two centuries. The Rockwool Woodland for Learning Steering Group now leases the proposed project area, comprising of several different natural habitats, including woodland, scrubland, wetland and a stream.

The group is keen to open up the woodland for community use and plan to construct a Woodland Learning Centre within the woodland, designed and constructed by a team of adults with learning difficulties and their support staff. The centre would also provide a key resource base for development and delivery of the Forest School Programme in Bridgend and be widely used by schools, community / youth groups and adults with learning difficulties from deprived areas to encourage understanding and appreciation of woodlands and the natural environment.
