Gilfach Goch Woodlands Project

A former colliery and tip site reclaimed and restored to a public open space with tree plantations. The site is in the central part of the valley enclosed by a main road and is an undeveloped river corridor with numerous established but neglected tree plantations. Throughout the site are areas of rough grass, wet open grassland and rushes. There are numerous paths throughout the area, linking the surrounding communities and following the river corridor, but many of these have become eroded where drainage is inadequate, others are obstructed or confined by maturing trees.

This regeneration project aims to develop and improve the area as an accessible green space by upgrading the existing path network, improving drainage, installing way-markers, boundaries, undertaking thinning, and planting of new trees and shrubs. A new bridge will be installed across the river and litter and dumped cars removed.
