Aberkenfig Community Wood

Aberkenfig wood is an unmanaged broadleaf woodland situated at the south eastern edge of Aberkenfig town. It has no formal access for the local community and has suffered from activities such as illegal felling, dumping of domestic and garden refuse and boundary encroachment.

The project plans to turn the woodland into a new community woodland and recreational resource, by introducing sustainable woodland management and providing public access facilities. Proposed works include creating an all ability path network, undertaking woodland management works such as thinning, selective felling, re-planting and removal of non-native species. Improving the existing car park and creating a path to link the car park and local primary school to the woodland, creating a minibus turning area/disabled parking area, and clearing the site of fly tipping and litter.
