Set in a secluded and picturesque spot in the heart of Pen Arthur forest near Llangadog in Carmarthenshire the woodland sauna known as Banya 17 provides an authentic traditional Slavic sauna experience.
The sauna was the inspiration of former Local Area Manager John Williams following visits by him to Russian country saunas. The sauna has featured in the Sunday Telegraph and Radio 4's You and Yours programme.
The overall aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle amongst the local population. To this end the sauna can be used by community groups - especially those who fall within the Welsh Assembly Government's target population for promoting a healthy lifestyle such as the elderly, mothers and toddlers and over 50s keep fit groups. The facility, which can accommodate up to eight people is widely used by members of the public who have to complete a sauna health questionnaire before using the facility.
