Forest Design Plans

Wild Ennerdale - Community consultationAll public forests in Wales have a Forest Design Plan.
The design plans are approved for a period of ten years but are normally reviewed every five years.

Review Process
Planners, conservation managers, foresters, recreation rangers and community rangers in each forest district meet to work out the people who have an interest in or are affected by operations in a particular wood.

This team decides which category of consultation is appropriate for each woodland.

Categories

A – consultation with statutory consultees (such as Countryside Council for Wales, county councils and community councils)

B – category A + people neighbouring the woodland, conservation bodies with an interest in the particular wood, anyone who has expressed an interest in the woodland in the past.

C – category A + B + full public consultation.

The information gathered from the consultations is then used to modify the forest design plan.
The design plan is then listed on the public register for a month to allow further opportunity for the public to comment.
