South West England Woodland and Forestry Strategic Economic Study

According to a groundbreaking report published by the Forestry Commission and the South West Regional Development Agency, woods and forests in the South West of England are worth £575 million to the regions economy.

The report looks at not only at the timber industry, but also at the wider use of woodland for recreation, tourism, sport, nature conservation, education and healthy living.

Horse riding centres, caravan parks and holiday cabin developments are among a significant number of businesses dependent on, or supported by woodlands, with other businesses benefiting indirectly from the regions woodlands such as sites like Westonbirt Arboretum, the Forest of Dean and Haldon Ridge near Exeter.
