Forestry Commission and National Parks Authority
The Forestry Commission and the Association of National Park Authorities signed an agreement in November 2002 to enhance the contribution that trees and woodlands can make to society within some of the finest landscapes if England and Wales. The chairman of the Forestry Commission, Lord Clark of Windermere, and ANPA chairman Caerwyn Roberts signed the accord on Tuesday November 12th 2002 at a conference in the North York Moors National Park. The accord provides a framework for the two organisations to work closely together to bring a variety of economic and environmental benefits to communities living within National Parks and the many visitors to them. The common aims of the two organisations include - improving the landscape by planting new native woodland
- increasing biodiversity both in ancient and semi-natural woodland and in open habitats
- conserving the cultural heritage and historic value of forests and woodlands
- making sure that woodlands are accessible for a wide range of recreational activities
- fostering the economic and social well being of local communities and creating employment opportunities
