Civil engineer (pay band 4)
 

Who can apply?

You must have an HNC in Civil or Structural Engineering or have an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Civil Service Commissioners. Professional experience in addition to the minimum requirement would also be desirable.

The duties of this post require that applicants hold a full driving licence that enables them to drive in the UK. However, the Forestry Commission is willing to consider any proposals put forward by disabled applicants, whose disability prevents them from driving, that would allow them to do the job by another means.

What is the work like?

The main aim is to provide road and timber handling facilities to meet afforestation and harvesting requirements. Responsibilities can include budgetary control, safety and design inspections, construction and maintenance of bridges and roads, the layout and construction of car parks, sewage works, water supplies and tip reclamation.
