The United Nations has designated 2011 as the International Year of Forests, to raise global awareness of the urgent need to conserve forest resources and to highlight their importance in our everyday life. For more information see www.un.org/forests.
Events
To celebrate the year we have organised events throughout England. Activities include everything from pond dipping and welly wangling at Alice Holt to den building and survival workshops at Fineshade Woods. At Grizedale they have wild art adventures, and there are digital photography sessions at Westonbirt Arboretum. Search for events near you here.
On September 11th we will be hosting a ‘Forest Discovery Day' across all of our major woodland sites. The event will raise awareness of your local woodland and highlight the many activities on offer. On the day, we will be holding a mass tree hug at 2pm across the country.
Love Forests
Together with WWF and Forest Stewardship Council we are supporting Love forests™.
Love forests™ is an independent initiative that brings people and local and global organisations together to raise awareness of the importance of forests and forest products. It launched on Valentine’s Day – Monday 14th February 2011.
Why don’t you log onto the Love forests™ facebook page and tell us why you love forests. Or check out the webpage to see what you can help www.loveforests.com
