The Glen Righ work is the first phase of a 10-15 year project along the A82 – from Inverness to Fort William – to fell trees and make safe the hillsides we manage.
Why are we doing this work?
The trees on these hillsides were planted in the 1920s and 1930s when the road was little more than a cart track. The trees on these slopes are now mature and of an age for harvesting – failure to remove them will increase the risk of being brought down by heavy winds, which will mean increased risk to the fabric and amenity of the A82.

Skyline Contract Procurement
Full scale harvesting operations have been underway at Glen Righ since the start of the New Year. This has involved a harvester / forwarder team (with tree surgery support) working immediately adjacent to the A82 and a skyline winch team working opposite the Loch Linnhe picnic site and extracting trees uphill to the forest road.
From April 2013, Mull based Duffy Skylining Ltd will undertake most of the skyline winch work under the A82 Project Area. Duffy Skyling has 23 years of experience in the forestry sector and has recently invested in a new skyline winch that is capable of pulling trees as heavy as 7 tonnes.
