Glenbranter Forest was the origin of the Forestry Commission's enterprise in Cowal. In 1921, land was leased from musician and farmer, Sir Harry Lauder. The village was built for forest workers in the 1950s and behind the houses, on the site of the original estate house is the car park marking the start of three circular walks.
There are a variety of other walks and cycle paths throughout the Glenbranter Forest.
The Information Room at Glenbranter is usually open to the public when there are recreation staff in the adjacent Forest Office (normally working hours 1000-1700 Monday to Friday). Should the information room be closed for any reason, please do knock on the door of the office next door and any staff in there will be happy to help as best they can.

How to get there:
Glenbranter Forest is part of Argyll Forest Park. Dunoon is the nearest town or village.
From Glasgow, travel along the A82 following the western shore of Loch Lomond to Tarbet. Follow the A83 through Arrochar towards Inveraray turning off onto the A815 towards Dunoon. Three miles south of Strachur on the A815 a right turn takes you over the River Cur to Glenbranter Forest.
