Haughmond Hill

(Average user rating5 unrated 4.1/5)

Welcome to Haughmond Hill

With four walking trails, a car park, cafe and permenant orienteering course Haughmond is a great place to walk with the family.

Walk out to the front of the Hill (along the Geo-trail or Wilfred's Walk) and drink in the views over Shrewsbury to the hills beyond.

There are two easy access trails suitable for mobility scooters and push chairs.  The Bardon Geo-trail will take you out to the new toposcope and the view.

Totally agree with Mikes comment 23/10. Found this beautiful place ruined by dog filth. Special award to the owner who bagged the filth and then left it under the pic nic table. Simply cannot understand why dog owners behave like this. Ban them all for a safe environment for kids.

Used to love Haughmond Hill, a few years ago we would visit at least once a month. I have a young family, 1 x 5yo and 1 x 1yo with a buggy. Fantastic that you have access trails for buggys and the terrain is level. Massive mistake that you don't have a no dogs trail. i have lost count of the number of times we have to clean dog poo off the buggy at the end of a walk. Yes I realise there are a lot of responsible dog owners out there. As for the others that deon't do anything about their dog waste - you should be ashamed. The hill is for everyone, so would one trail that doesn't allow dogs be a massive problem? It's bad enough knowing your children can't explore the woods for fear of stepping in dog muck, let alone not being able to use the main paths because of this problem. We don't visit anymore and leave the hill to the dog owners that use the place as a dog toilet rather than an exercise ground. If this issue was monitored properly, the hill could be enjoyed by so many more people. I guess my children will have to sit in front of the TV now where there is no dog poo.

I work for Age Concern and we are planning to a sponsored walk. If we chose Hagmond Hill, do we need to inform you, get permission etc? Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Walking
If you are walking with dogs please do not allow them to foul the paths. Particularly the Corbett Easy Access Trail or the Geo Trail as this is popular with wheel chair users and families with buggies.
Cycling
If you choose to cycle on Haughmond please take care as there are large numbers of families and walkers with dogs. Please do not cycle on the Corbett Easy Access Trail. Eastridge Woods near Minsterley has cross country and downhill mountain bike trails which will give you a far better ride.
HorseRiding.gif
Riders are welcome in this wood however we would ask you to avoid the Corbett Easy Access Trail and the Geo Trail.
