Forest of Dean

Explore Cannop Cycle Centre
(Average user rating: 5 unrated 4.4/5)

This centre, on the site of an old colliery, is the ideal place to start your cycling adventure.  Enjoy a gentle ride through the forest on the Family Cycle Trail or test your skills on one of our MTB or downhill trails.

On your bike!

Cannop Cycle Centre is the starting point for the Forest of Dean Family Cycle Trail which consists of eleven miles of waymarked, surfaced tracks.

Two singletrack trails have been designed for cyclists looking for a more adventurous ride. The 3 mile red grade (difficult) Freeminer Trail and the 7 mile blue grade (moderate) Verderers' Trail

For experienced riders only, there are a number of 'downhill' trails and an uplift service available, Flyupdownhill, for transport to the top of the slopes.

For the safety of walkers and wildlife, please keep all off-road mountain biking to the Sallowvallets MTB area behind the Cycle Centre.  In the wider forest, you can explore using hard surfaced tracks, but please do not ride off-road or on waymarked walking trails.

Pedalabikeaway

As well as hiring bikes, Pedalabikeaway also offers refreshments, toilets and a bike workshop. Contact Pedalabikeaway on 01594 860065 for further details.

1 South West off-road cycling project

Recent trail and car park improvements have been developed in partnership with the 1 South West off road cycling project. 1 South West aims to create an off-road cycling region and provide information allowing people to enjoy adventurous off-road cycing and progress their riding with confidence.

Cycle Events

A number of cycle events are held on site each year. Parking may be limited on these days.  Other events such as the Wyedean Car Rally (February) and Half Marathon (March) will affect the trails.

MTB trails were enjoyable, but nothing special. Paying ■3.50 to park wasn't at all enjoyable. Furthermore, being asked to wash my bike to prevent the spread of an arboreal disease, then charging me a pound to do it felt like something of a con.

Richard, 23/Apr/2014

The income from our car park charge goes towards maintenance of the facilities on site - signage, car park surfacing, showers, toilets, benches and most importantly trail checks and maintenance - we have invested thousands of pounds into new trails and maintenance of existing ones in the last few years. The bike wash is recommended but not compulsory.
