Recreation at Miterdale
 

Colour rating today: turned golden turned golden
In Autumn the oak and birch woodland of the lower Miterdale valley are a joy to walk through. Park at Miterdale Car Park by the River Mite and soak up the colors of the season as the forest and fells shed their summer dust in preperation for winter.

How to get there:

Eskdale Green, Egremont, and Whitehaven are the nearest towns or villages.

By Road:
From Gosforth or the A595 follow signs for Eskdale Green. North West of Eskdale Green turn north east up a lane and past St Begas Primary School. Follow the single track lane up the valley 1.5km through the gate and park in the open area on the left before the bridge beside the River Mite.
By Rail:
The nearest railway station is at Ravenglass on the line between Barrow and Carlisle. From Ravenglass take a ride on the wonderfull narrow gauge steam Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway up to Irton Road Station. Then walk 1.7km north east into Miterdale (Ordnance Survey Explorer Map OL6).
