High Stand
 

High Stand is the largest forest within a short drive of Carlisle. The forest is mostly level and provides easy walking through open woodlands. At the northern edge of the forest are some ponds and along with the diverse nature of this forest High Stand is home to a wide range of animals and birds.

How to get there:

Armathwaite and Carlisle are the nearest towns or villages.
OS Grid Reference: NY487488

By Road - From Armathwaite take the minor road to Cotehill, turn right at the junction for Aiketgate and the public car park is in the south east corner of the forest.
By Rail - the nearest rail station is at Armathwaite around 2km from the south west corner of the forest.

What's of interest
In January 2005 the great storm that swept across Cumbria significantly remodelled the forest. Whilst we comnsider the future management of the windblown areas nature is slowly deciding for us.
