Recreation at Smithy Brow Lane

Smithy Brow Lane provides pedestrian access only to Giggle Alley. Giggle Alley which is a wonderfully small woodland including a unique Japanese Garden which is being restored by a partnership between the Forestry Commission and the local community. The garden was originally created for Lord Rea by Thomas Mawson's garden design team and includes mature Maples, Magnolia, Bamboo and rock pools which fill up when it rains. Limited parking is available in Eskdale Green or for a great day out why not park in Ravenglass and take the narrow gauge steam Ravengalss and Eskdale Railway to Irton Road station from where Giggle Alley is only a short 15 minute walk away.

How to get there:

Smithy Brow Lane is in Giggle Alley. Eskdale Green, Egremont, and Whitehaven are the nearest towns or villages.

From the Post Office in the middle of Eskdale Green walk east 150m past the public toilets and car park and up Smithybrow Lane 50m where a gap in the wall on your left provides the entrance to the woodland.
