About Clunie Oakwood/Green Discovery Trail

The Clunie Oakwood loop walk has its own car park, which is adjacent to the start/finish of the trail. The track was designed to allow the less-able to enjoy a short easy walk through an oak wood in the process of restoration after years of rhododendron infestation.

This work was made possible by grants from the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund under the Highlands and Islands Objective Partnership Programme.

How to get there:

Clunie Oakwood/Green Discovery Trail can be started from Ardentinny Car park in Ardentinny and Glenfinnart which is part of Argyll Forest Park. Dunoon is the nearest town or village.

There are two equally appealing approaches to Ardentinny.

Take the car ferry from Gourock to Dunoon, and follow the A815 then the A880.

Alternately, take the A82 from Glasgow along the western shore of Loch Lomond through Tarbet, entering the Park at Arrochar, follow the A815 at Cairndow, then take the A880 to Ardentinny.

What's of interest

This walk is also named the 'Green Discovery Trail'. All along the trail you'll find different bryophytes. Don't be put off by the name, which means ‘moss plant’ in Greek, and includes all mosses and liverworts. Keep an eye open for these wee green survivors that colonise shaded areas. You will find information signs along the track.
