Red Cycle Route

(Average user rating5 unrated 4.6/5)

The Red route is a difficult and taxing ride. It is mostly single track winding between the trees and is a step up from the Green or Blue routes. For aspiring cyclists who enjoy a challenge. Not recommended for cyclists under 12 years.

Hadn't ridden the red for about a year. New bike got me back up there. And it made me wonder why I ever stopped. Some nice technical parts, some easy fast sections, corners with trees right on the apex just waiting to grab a shoulder and spit you off the trail, if not the bike! A nice mixture of terrain, roots and mud, hard pack gravel, single track, and more open stuff. A level of fitness is required as it is 11m. But that said, if you wanted to plod around it, then you could. It is nicely signed, so no chance of getting lost. My only negative comment is to do with walkers. I'm not against them, but please, don't walk the red. It's a bike route. I encountered 2 lots. One of which had dogs. Dogs and bikes do not make a happy mix, Swearing ensued on both sides. Which I'm sure spoiled the day for both parties. To sum up though: A great trail. Well maintained. Suitable for all levels except absolute beginners. Have fun. Enjoy :)

An excellent mountain bike trail. Very well maintained and signed, no map required. Rode it twice today. Still too scared to face the black run...next time, maybe. x
