Tree Walk

This trail starts at the Grove Car park, approximately two miles beyond the Visitor Centre on the Forest drive. A short pleasant walk around the Grove taking in a wide variety of trees, planted at the turn of the century by the Surtees family who were keen naturalists. Look out for the Giant redwood, yew and the monkey puzzle tree. The route drops behind the Grove to the Nest cottage, a former farm belonging to the Surtees and now a training centre, then crosses to the Euden Beck to return to the Grove car park.

How to get there:

Tree Walk can be started from Hamsterley Forest Visitor Centre in Hamsterley. Hamsterley, Witton-le Wear, Wolsingham, Bishop Auckland, and Durham are the nearest towns or villages.

Turn right in Hamsterley village following the brown tourist signs, turn left in hamlet of Bedburn to enter the forest and access the forest drive and car parks (£3 toll fee).
