Blue Cycle Trail

This trail starts the same as the green trail then, just after the bridge, turns right onto the Grove cycling link. This is a 2 mile section of purpose built trail, fairly narrow in places but not single track. At the end of this section turn left and follow the forest drive to Blackling Hole. The route then climbs into the forest and returns to the back of the Grove house on forest roads, before returning to the visitor centre along the tarmac forest drive. The surface is mainly hard and compact although the condition of the forest roads is variable.

How to get there:

Blue Cycle Trail can be started from Hamsterley Forest Visitor Centre in Hamsterley. Hamsterley, Witton-le Wear, Wolsingham, Bishop Auckland, and Durham are the nearest towns or villages.

Turn right in Hamsterley village following the brown tourist signs, turn left in hamlet of Bedburn to enter the forest and access the forest drive and car parks (£3 toll fee).
