Bignall's Wood to Jaguar Lount Wood Cycle Trail

This surfaced track winds it's way through the new plantings at Jaguar Lount Wood and Bignall's Wood, next to the Staunton Harold Estate, within The National Forest. The construction of the track was funded by Leicestershire Shire Grants, The National Forest Company, Alliance and Leicster and East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA). An extension to the surfaced trail has been built to take you through Alistair's Wood via a disused railway track.

How to get there:

Alistair's, Bignall's and Jaguar Lount Woods Cycle Trail can be started from Staunton Harold Garden Centre Car Park in Bignall's Wood which is part of The National Forest. Lount is the nearest town or village.

By road: Take the B587 and follow signs to the Ferrers Centre.

OS Grid Reference: SK 376 207

Birds: With farming being an important land use in the area Barn Owls have been spotted regularly over the open fields at Bignall's Wood.
Kestrals and buzzards are also frequently seen coming out from the estblished woodland on the Staunton Harold Estate.

Habitats: As you ride through Jaguar Lount Wood look out for the walnut plantations, including an internationally important research area, and walnut avenue.
In Bignall's Wood look out for the mixed maple plantations which will, once established, provide flashes of colour to the site.
At Alistair's Wood you pass a Site of Special Scientific Interest designated for its mixture of grassland flower species. In the summer look out for ponies grazing to help keep it in good condition.
